Every legacy begins with a single dog.

For Aumoehoku, our story began in 1996 with a deep love for the Australian Shepherd and a belief that thoughtful breeding could help preserve everything that makes this breed extraordinary. Over the years, that journey has been shaped not only by the dogs who stand beside us today, but by the remarkable dogs who came before them.

Our past dogs are woven into every part of who we are.

They taught us what we value in a dog—soundness, structure, instinct, temperament, intelligence, versatility, and above all, the ability to become a beloved member of a family. Some carried us into the show ring and earned recognition as champions and Best in Show winners. Others never won a ribbon, but left an equally lasting mark through the families they loved, the adventures they shared, and the generations they helped create.

Each one contributed something.

A strength in structure.
A beautiful head.
A natural herding instinct.
A steady and willing temperament.
A spark of personality that could never be measured on a pedigree.

And sometimes, their greatest contribution was simply teaching us.

And sometimes, their greatest contribution was simply teaching us.

Breeding is a journey of generations, and no breeder reaches the present without standing upon the foundation laid by those who came before. The dogs of our past helped shape our eye, our knowledge, our goals, and our understanding of what it means to be entrusted with the future of a breed.

As our program has grown to include the Miniature American Shepherd, we carry those lessons with us. Though our horizons have expanded from our island beginnings in Hawaii to our mountain home in Utah, the foundation remains the same: to preserve what is worthy, improve where we can, and always strive to leave the breeds better for the generations that follow.

Some of these dogs may no longer be with us, but their influence remains in our home, in our pedigrees, in our memories, and in the dogs sleeping at our feet today.

They are not simply part of our history. They are part of our future.

We are forever grateful to the dogs who gave us their trust, their companionship, their victories, their lessons, and their love. Every puppy born at Aumoehoku carries a little piece of that history forward.

And so, we remember them—not only for what they accomplished, but for who they were.

This is their legacy.
And we are honored to carry it forward.
